What is Breast Augmentation?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that increases the fullness and projection of the breasts to create a more voluptuous bust line. It is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures and can address a number of issues including:
- Underdeveloped breasts
- Loss of volume
- Asymmetry
- Mild sagging
Breast Augmentation can do more than simply enhance your figure and increase your choice of clothing options. Many of our Austin patients report after the procedure an improved outlook and increased confidence. At Personique, it is our objective to help you uncover this sense of confidence and self-esteem so that you can shine inside and out.
We view procedures like breast augmentation as a collaborative process with your happiness as our #1 priority. Our surgeons will work closely with you to understand your aesthetic goals and ensure you achieve your desired results.
At Personique, we understand that no two patients are alike, and therefore each procedure is customized to fit the individual’s unique anatomy and aesthetic goals. During your initial consultation, your surgeon will work closely with you to develop a surgical plan that addresses your personal goals and complements your natural body shape.

What to Expect During Breast Augmentation Surgery
All breast augmentation procedures are performed at our private, outpatient surgical suite located in Austin, TX. At your initial consultation, you and your plastic surgeon will have finalized your specific treatment plan, including implant type, implant size and surgical technique.
On the day of surgery, you will arrive at our surgical suite at your pre-appointed time, where you will meet with your anesthesiologist and nursing staff. We understand that the day of surgery can be a nervous experience for everyone, so our friendly team takes extra care to put you at ease upon your arrival.
While in the pre-op area, an IV will be started in your hand or forearm and you will receive intravenous sedation. This medication will quickly put you into a deeply relaxed state before you head into the O.R. Your surgeon will come to see you in the pre-op area beforehand to mark the surgical site and answer any last minute questions you may have.
You will be accompanied into the O.R. by your nursing staff who will remain present throughout the entirety of the procedure. Once on the O.R. table, your anesthesiologist will administer medication through your I.V. to relax you as soon as you are lying down, and you will unlikely remember anything past this point in the operating room. A local anesthetic is also injected at the treatment site to ensure no pain is felt during surgery.
During the Operation
Based on the surgical plan you and your surgeon discussed, the incision is made either above or below the breast muscle. Incision locations vary and can potentially be made in the armpits or around the colored region (areola) of the nipples.
Once the incision is made, the implant is then inserted into a pocket either under the pectoral muscle or directly behind the breast tissue. The technique used for inserting and positioning the implant varies depending on the type of implant chosen, degree of enlargement desired and your specific body type.
Once the implants have been properly placed and secured, the incisions are closed. Breast augmentation surgery time can vary widely, usually between 1 – 3 hours.

Breast Augmentation Recovery
Once the procedure is complete, you will wake up in the recovery area where you will be closely monitored by our medical team. Most patients are released to go home a few hours after their operation. You will need to arrange for a family member or friend to pick you up as you will still be somewhat groggy after the procedure.
The results of your breast augmentation procedure will be immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will go down and incision lines will gradually fade. Breast augmentation recovery is quite mild compared to many other procedures. Most patients are able to return to their desk jobs in a matter of a few days.
